PLANET Seminar Series

Practical Learning About New Environmental Technologies, hosted by Association of Women in Science

The PLANET Seminar (Practical Learning About New Environmental Technologies) is a new seminar series hosted by the Association for Women in Science (AWIS) Sacramento Valley and the UC Davis Student Farm. This series is geared towards undergraduate and graduate students interested in careers at the intersection of agriculture and environmental science, with a focus on sustainability and emerging technologies that mitigate negative environmental impacts. PLANET seminars will be held on the second Wednesday of every month from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM in the Bowley Lecture Hall.

The second PLANET seminar of the quarter is on Wednesday, February 11th from 5-6 pm in the Bowley Lecture Hall, UC Davis. Nicolas Castellon, CEO of MIIDO, will present MIIDO, a bilingual, WhatsApp-based tool that helps farmers and field crews see what inputs the farm needs, in real time. By turning on-farm sensor data and other measurements into simple, usable information, MIIDO helps reduce fertilizer waste, protect water quality, and support better decisions in the field. There will be a short trivia and a raffle with prizes from local Davis businesses, Rocknasium and Easy Wind!

The first seminar is this Wednesday, January 14th from 5-6 pm in the Bowley Lecture Hall. The speakers are Dr. Kimberly Gibson (a UC Davis alum, former SCOPE student, and Post-doc at UC Merced!) and Nathan Dorn from F3: Farms, Food, Future. There will be trivia and a raffle with prizes!
