We feature small group activities that allow children to explore, discover, and play in a garden setting. The field trips take place in the Ecological Garden at the UC Davis Student Farm where flowers, vegetables, fruit trees, herbs and other plants grow year-round. Students also visit the Market Garden at the Student Farm to see vegetable production in a farm setting. Exploring the garden, farm, and surrounding habitat provides an enriching, hands-on learning experience.
Tours are designed and led by trained UC Davis student interns and reflect what’s happening in the garden at a given time and season. While overall content and setting during each tour is similar, the specific activities will vary from day to day and from year to year.
Nearby schools in Davis, Dixon, Esparto, West Sacramento, Winters, and Woodland are given priority in the field trip reservation process, but field trip spaces are often available for schools outside those areas as well. Field trip content is appropriate for K-6 students. We can accommodate up to 60 students per visit; larger groups will be scheduled across multiple days.
Cost is $4.00/child, no charge for adult chaperones. Chaperones driving personal vehicles can park on the street near the garden or in UC Davis Parking Lot 30 (payment required).
We begin accepting reservation requests in October for the following spring season. Requests are filled through a lottery system. If you are interested in scheduling a spring field trip, please fill out this online registration form.
