Our annual seeds, foodways, and culture gathering is going to be a little more intimate this year, with us coming together over a hearty community-prepared meal to share our knowledge, ideas, and practices. We are also inviting community members to bring foods, but also skills, conversation, and other knowledge to share with the gathering. This year's details are as follows:
Knowledge Sharing Circles
These activities will involve hands-on activities and discussion led by
- Maiz & Nixtamalization with Itzel Villagran with hands-on masa making
- "Cultivating Discipline" - Working with Cultural Knowledge & Knowledge Keepers with Diana Almendariz, including processing of Red Maids seeds
- Seed Saving for Culturally Important Foods with SCOPE team and Sumer Zahra with cleaning & processing of marimya seeds
- Firestick Materials and Use with Chimaway Lopez
- Stewardship of Native Californian Plants on UCD campus including elderberry, pipevine, willow, brodiaea, and other plants in the Ecological Garden
