The Fresh Focus team had an exciting and abundant summer, full of new community connections, friendship, delicious food, and an almost never ending supply of cucumber and squash!

The Fresh Focus program reduces food loss while supporting student access to fresh produce. It is a central component of the Student Farm's efforts to build a more equitable and just farm and food system by cultivating student initiative, leadership, and experiential learning. During the summer, while many students are away and campus is quiet, Fresh Focus has the opportunity to distribute produce to food access programs and community organizations across Yolo County.

Summer 2024 Highlights

• Established partnerships with new community organizations across Yolo County, including the Food is Medicine program at Communicare, Woodland Food Closet, and Aggie House
• Strengthened existing partnerships with Davis Night Market, Yolo Food Bank, Empower Yolo at Knights Landing, and Fruit and Vegie Up
• Distributed a whopping 8,591 pounds of produce in the span of 12 weeks
• Hosted and cooked a food sovereignty meal for the Student Farm community and visiting Agroecology students
• Students built a caring, supportive, learning and working environment together, and ended the Summer with new friendships and connections
